This picture may not look like much but it is a crucial part of the squat, and that is the initiation of the movement. Maybe the most important part of the decent and the squat is what you do with your knees. Initiating the squat with a knee-out position is going to do so many good things for your squat; It'll fire your glutes, it'll get your femurs out of the way to allow your pelvis to sit between those thigh bones a little easier, it'll create more torque in the hip allowing you to generate more force, it'll allow you to be more upright, it'll put your knees in a healthier position for loading. It looks very simple the position Jennifer is in, but it is something that doesn't happen automatically, we have to tell ourselves to get the knees out. There's no wonder Jennifer was hitting an excellent bottom position as well, nice job Jennifer!
What is your go-to squat cue? Have you tried thinking about pushing your knees out on the way down?
