Heart And Soul

Some things you just remember in life, they stick with you.  Like so many, I spent a lot of time obsessing over crossfit videos filmed back at HQ.  Annie was a big part of that little infatuation back between 2005 and 2008.  It took me a long time to get comfortable around her coming to Central in 08'.  Even after coaching her for years, I still found myself getting nervous frequently.  Actually to be honest, probably every day we were together, which during that time was a couple hours almost every day of the week.  As I look back on it now though, I see it as a very positive thing to be so in awe and anxious.  It made me constantly work on my craft.  I watched so many videos, attended many seminars, thought for hours and hours about her programming, drew up table sized diagrams of squat cycles, oly cycles, gymnastic cycles, midline cycles, dumbbell cycles, the list goes on.  Now I see though that because Annie was there, it made me the best coach I could have been.  I don't think there are many people that I would have worked so hard for.
More than any of those videos though that stuck with me was the short video shot of the grand opening of Central.  Rob was doing the talking and he went through and introduced the five owners, saying a quick word about them.  He ended with Annie, introducing her as the heart and soul of Crossfit Santa Cruz Central.  Thank you Annie for being the heart and soul of this special place and allowing me to reach a level of coaching I do not think I would have without you.  I am forever grateful for the opportunities you have afforded me.  Happy Birthday.
