Where's The Rest?

Here's an interesting thought.  The question is frequently asked, "where's the rest."  Some workouts we have built in rest, some we do not.  You could actually map out a for time workout in regards to your work:rest ratio and find all kinds of rest. I can guarantee that more of the rest is in the latter stages of the workout.
What would happen if you took the same workout that had the same time, but partitioned the rest throughout the workout?  An easy way to look at it theoretically would be by taking all of your rest in the last third of the workout, and place it into the first third.  Can you picture how that would feel at the beginning?  Way easier, more relaxed, calm?  You can actually easily make the argument that if you accurately placed more rest at the beginning of the workout (especially the first couple minutes when we're burning through our creatine phosphate pathway, which can  make us think this is how the workout is going to feel) you would be better primed to finish faster.  That is pacing.  If you find that your workout starts and you don't feel relaxed, calm and even at ease, it's simply because you are not pacing correctly, i.e. you're going too fast.
So, where's the rest?  Try putting more at the beginning and see how it feels.
